Do you use the same style of fabric in most your quilts?
I know I do. I favor tone on tone fabrics and subtle prints that read as solids. Sometimes I use novelty prints in baby quilts or theme prints in holiday quilts, but you’ll still see my old favorites right there with them.
I’ve been working on the pattern for what I call the Not My Style Quilt. It has me thinking about fabric choices.
I’ve identified a few fabrics I never use in quilts.
Oriental/Japanese
Bold geometrics
Plaids
Metallics
The metallics are a mystery. I don’t think twice about using metallic paint or paintstiks.
So Saturday I’m heading to the biggest quilt shop in my area to find fabric I would never buy. Then I’m buying some and using it in the Not My Style Quilt.
I’m having way too much fun with this.
I have a nice "collection" of orientals that I've never had the inspiration
to use. If you find a good way to incorporate them in something, let me
know :)
I don't know if I'll ever get to using my Oriental prints. Would you like
to take them off my hands? I did a quilt with them

- although I think it ended up being too busy. It was a lot of fun,
though... ;-) And I still have so much left over. Imagine that.
Wendy, I like the pattern of the quilt but I see what you mean about being
busy. For some reason, I think the Oriental prints need to be showcased in
a serene way--much like their flower arrangements, which are rather spare.
But it's tough to do that in a quilty way.
