Good News

posted Saturday, 14 March 2009

Back in January I posted about my son’s medical issues with a blood disorder that caused him to have extremely high triglyceride (trig) levels.  We began many lifestyle changes and started him on medicine that we had to discontinue after a month because he had a bad reaction to it.

snoopyLast weekend he went for blood tests, and we saw the cardiologist Thursday.  My son’s trig number decreased 700 points and his cholesterol decreased 80 points.  His total cholesterol is in the acceptable range again, even lower than mine.  His trigs still need to come down another 460 points to get him back in the normal range, but we are doing the happy dance over the first positive changes we’ve seen since this started in December 2007.

Because we made so many changes to his diet, lifestyle and medications in the past two months, we have no idea what caused the dramatic decrease.  We are grateful for both the improvement to his health and the knowledge that we can get this under control.  We never expected such a huge improvement in only two months.

Thanks to everyone that kept my son in their thoughts and prayers.  We know it helped.  Please keep rooting for us as we continue to work through this!  I will post another update after we have his next appointment this summer.
