On the Road

posted Saturday, 22 December 2007

I spent the day driving three hours to mom’s house to pick her up then drove three hours back to our house so she could spend Christmas with us.  I was lucky enough to get an early start and miss the traffic on the way there.  Three hours is a long time on the road when you’re alone.  I started listening to Christmas music on the radio, then I switched to my ipod.  There was lots of time to think while driving through the flat open country of northwest Ohio, past Cleveland, and into the rolling hills of eastern Ohio.

The traffic picked up on the way back, but we still made good time.  We stopped at a service plaza for soup and sandwiches at Panera Bread.  We parked in the last spot in the car lot (there’s a separate parking lot for semi trucks).  I’ve never seen a service plaza that crowded.  It was worth it to enjoy a bowl of baked potato soup.

Now we’re back home, a little brain dead, but no worse for wear.  The sewing/guest room has now become simply the guest room, and I’m desperately searching for somewhere to set up my sewing machine for the next week.  Christmas is the only time of year that I wish I had a bigger house.  I only work three days in the next eleven, so it’s prime time to make some progress on a quilting project or two.  But where can I put the machine???????

For now, it’s tucked away on the floor between two dressers in our bedroom.  I may have to live with moving it to the dining room table every time I want to sew, then putting everything away when I’m done, which makes me appreciate my sewing room that much more.
